aBOUT THE yOUTH mOVEMENT

The Better Detroit Youth Movement (BDYM) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven coalition of incredible individuals and great groups working together to improve the quality of life and learning for – and with — our young generation every day.

For more than 15 years, BDYM empowered Detroit teens and young adults through experiential learning, social entrepreneurship, and personal and professional development.

Past events and initiatives include Live in Peace art parties at Wayne State, job fairs at Bert’s Warehouse, scholarship fairs at Cobo Hall, The Million Father March, teen and young adult mentoring, community clean ups, youth resource summits with ARISE Detroit, and partnering on healthy youth resource fairs at Don Bosco Hall, and Wayne County 36th District Court drug and alcohol intervention programs for first-time teen offenders.

While the work is the reward, it’s not enough. There are still too many children, teens and young adults who need the guidance and support of caring adults. The pandemic crippled the non-profit ecosystem, people retreated inwardly and we shut ourselves off from the world. Our children paid the price.

Today, The Better Detroit Youth Movement is evolving to support the successes of other youth-serving individuals and organizations with the ultimate goal of connecting all children to what they need, when they need it, and exactly where they are.

We seek to empower Greater Detroit youth with the power to govern themselves and their surroundings by choice rather than circumstance, and believe every child can make a difference.
